Hi
A patient in ED had a displaced BGT. I managed to insert a BGT after using an Ace stopper first however there was bleeding from the tract as there was resistance.
I managed to get aspirates but it was quite heavily blood stained for about half an hour but able to see colour change on pH strip at between 1.5 and 2.5. I discussed this with a CNS at another hospital and my Gastro Consultant and were all of the view that as blood pH is 7.25, the fact we were getting acidid reading meant the blood isn’t affecting the ph reading.
Does anyone have an opinion on this please?
I ended up keeping her in ED until there were only specks of blood and got pH of 2 but just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences/advice to offer?
Cheers
Alison
