RCN Gastrointestinal Nursing Forum

Mission statement

The RCN Gastrointestinal Nursing Forum has more than 2,000 members and aims to provide a professional network of support for nurses from all areas of gastrointestinal care.

Aim

The aim of the forum is to promote and maintain excellent standards of gastrointestinal nursing care across the United Kingdom.

The forum also aims to:

  • provide an effective communication network between forum members
  • provide a strong, recognised voice for GI nursing staff among nursing, medical, allied health profession, political bodies and patient groups
  • promote quality educational opportunities that support standards of GI care
  • promote and support GI nursing audit, research and publication.

Forum objectives for 2011/12:

  • To help launch the national liver disease strategy including the competence framework for liver nursing.
  • To complete the RCN national IBD nursing audit, publish and disseminate its results.
  • To plan and run an effective nurses day at the first UKDDF conference in 2012.
  • To revise the forum online community, increasing its usage, and providing links to other stakeholders.
  • To approach relevant nursing stakeholders and work collaboratively with them.
  • To launch a regular GI Forum newsletter for all forum members.
