Press Release: NNNG welcomes latest NSPA Patient Safety Alert

NNNG Chair Liz Evans welcomes the NPSA Alert “Reducing the harm caused by misplaced nasogastric feeding tubes in adults, children and infants”*.

Liz Evans, Chair of the NNNG states:

The NPSA has released an update to their earlier patient safety alert ‘Reducing the harm caused by misplaced nasogastric feeding tubes’ released in 2005**. Since the release of the first alert there have been a further 21 deaths and 79 cases of harm, related to feeding through misplaced nasogastric tubes. The new alert aims to provide strengthened guidance to organisations based on learning from the events reported.
